A few icons I whipped up this afternoon. Feel free to gank them- more to come, and credit would be nice, but whatever. Iapos;ve been obsessing a bit about Dr. Horrible, but its finally got me off of Avenue Q and Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.

Ever have days when you wish you could be a chalkboard? So all the things that people tell you that feel like theyapos;ll be there forever could just be scrubbed away in some after school detention special? Maybe a musical? With dancing. And spirit fingers. Some kind of basketball dance number ala Stomp and High School Musical.

I blame Joss Whedon by the way for the fact that my syntax is forever fixated in Buffy-ese, complete with inundated pop culture references that no one else wants to get.

Anyway, back feeling better today. Not right now, obviously, so there will be Lortab and a few hours of sleep and, hopefully, finally, the beach. Because, damnit, I want the ocean.

So weapos;ve been in Buffalo for two weeks, and this morning, hereapos;s what we have going on in the front yard:

gas leak

Nothing to worry about. Just your every day natural gas leak. They knocked on the door this morning to tell us they had to shut off the gas (so now I have a legitimate excuse to skip my shower and to go out to dinner instead of the flimsy excuses I pull out of a hat each morning), and within an hour, the front yard was destroyed.

It looks fun, tearing things up and causing destruction with little trucks, but Iapos;m not sure Iapos;d sign up for that job. Too dangerous, messing with natural gas. Just like when the guy came two weeks ago to convert some of the 2-prong plugs to 3-prong plugs. Theyapos;re still not 100 properly grounded according to this little test plug thingy Dad brought over, but Iapos;m not about to mess with electrical currents in my free time, just like Iapos;m not about to poke my head into that hole outside even though the National Fuel guys just left it there all gaping and torn up and whereapos;s Jimmy Hoffa and all.

Like many homes in Elmwood Village, ours was built in the late 1800s, which means that we can hear every step on the old wood floors, but the place will probably stand up to an earthquake or zombie apocalypse. It also comes complete with original stained glass windows, built in cabinetry, and uber-creeptastic basement artifacts.

X-Files?

But the best part is that I finally have my own office Still a work in progress --- we are woefully short on bookshelves at the moment, but weapos;ll be ordering those shortly. My dad is also going to build me a table-slash-desk, and then Iapos;m going to cover the walls in photographs.

Office

Now that weapos;re semi-mostly unpacked, weapos;ve been exploring the neighborhood, too. Weapos;re walking distance from some of the best Greek, Indian, Middle Eastern, and Asian restaurants in town, not to mention DeLish bakery, where I accidentally bought this exquisitely dangerous German chocolate brownie:

I think Iapos;ll just leave you with that for now. Stay tuned tomorrow for a gas leak update and shots of Delaware Park in fall

I was talking to my friend last night and we were
talking about our liberal agendas, and what propositions we needed to vote for.
i told him to tell his californian friends, of which he has none,
that they need to vote yes on proposal 2...it proposes that farm animals
be given room to walk, graze, be outside, etc...basically be treated
in a humane fashion.
being a lawyer and a douchebag [he loves debating, i hate it],
he tried taking the devilapos;s advocate side, and said
"but it will significantly increase the cost of meat, eggs and milk".
all i could say to him was..."then donapos;t eat it itapos;s not necessary"

franky i donapos;t wish to push my eating habits onto others,
but come on, the price of meat and eggs going up so that animals
can have a chance at a semi-decent life? it shouldnapos;t even be up for question.
...and another thing, why isnapos;t this up for debate in the other states?
...and another thing, nobody is going to die if they canapos;t eat meat, eggs or
cowsmilk every day.
it frightens me that there are actually people out there that think that way.

Last week was kinda messed up. I ended up having to got to the doctorapos;s to get some stuff for my back ... Which had probably been in spasms for a month or so, but I was too stupid to pay attention until the point where I was damn-near crippled.

Go, me

I ended up missing most of my classes last week. So, Iapos;ve got a ton of homework that needs clearing off this week, making it all the more difficult to study for my HR Midterm thatapos;s coming up on Thursday. All the work that needs doing has quickly surpassed the relaxing that M and I did at Necronomicon this past weekend.

School is going fairly well. Iapos;ve got a decent grasp on my Research Survey and HR Management courses. (Itapos;s good to understand what the instructor is talking about.) Business Legal Issues isnapos;t difficult, but the work is involved. I just finished up my Board of Directorsapos; Statement of Intent. Iapos;m about to start on my Business Plan later this evening, since itapos;s due next week and will take some time. Eval II has also managed to keep me busy. I finished up my last PowerPoint, but wasnapos;t able to present it because of my back, and thereapos;s a Thought paper due next week.

On a different note ... I was named Interim President for the Arts Leaders Managers group. Scary, innit. Instead of sticking it to The Man, I really have become The Man. One of my first acts as president might also be one that relieves me of the position. We need to have a proper election of officers to get a full executive board for ALM. Itapos;s going to be tough to do, since everyoneapos;s busy with their classes right now.

M is finally up and moving. I guess that means itapos;s dinner time.

Nothing too exiting, just an update for the last few days....

Saturday was lame. I ended up just making it to the second quarter of the game, to make a very long story short... Which was fun... But boo. I shouldnapos;t have wasted my time. Debbie got smashed and forgot about me, lol. So I donapos;t know what to do about her. Iapos;m pretty pissed, frankly, and Iapos;m really not willing to put this much work into a friendship to get so little in return. But thereapos;s a part of me thatapos;s scared for Debbie. I know she was in the hospital for part of last semester, and Iapos;m wondering if thereapos;s something going on I donapos;t know about. I just donapos;t know what to do, really. I think Iapos;ve got to leave it to her, for now? Maybe we can catch the last game together or something. Iapos;ll leave the doors open, but I canapos;t go chasing her any longer.

My wasted Saturday meant I spent Sunday working my tail off. I got everything done, though, to a very satisfactory degree :). Nothing big... Worked, worked at the SOM, worked, ate No Thai with Kathy, who was sick as could be the whole weekend. Monday was slow, but we did have an awesome free Jazz musician come in and perform for us in US Music. Um... Oh, Vocal Arts LabIt was really great finally performing the set of 5 short Spanish pieces in public It went quite well, I think. Iapos;ll be able to refine the performance and really do well once November rolls around. (God, Iapos;m 5 weeks away from my recital Skery.) On a similar note, I finally had the guitar Villancicos sent here, via a Spanish website. Theyapos;ll take two weeks to get here, though, and I donapos;t know if my guitarrist will stand for learning the pieces in three weeks... Oh well.

The toilet aparantly exploded this morning after I left.... Ugh. Lots of nasty clean up. But thatapos;s done now.

Also, there is no money for me in the entire world, ever. Really, the Office of International Programs doesnapos;t offer any scholarship money? None? Ugh... Iapos;m looking for private scholarships and anything I can get in merit from the Office of Financial Aid. I could really use some monetary help. Maybe Iapos;ll work at Bursley... That seems to be the one place I havenapos;t applied around here.

Iapos;ll be in Baltimore this time three days from now Ahhh :) Thatapos;s the only thing keeping me going through this weird week.

Today I went for an appointment at Compassionate Beauty. Itapos;s a store servicing women with cancer, so wigs, massages, mastectomy supplies, hats, scarves, etc. This store had given all the participants of the Survivorapos;s Parade a gift certificate for either a 30 minute massage or a pink bra. I opted for the bra, plus tried on bathing suits. I only have one, so thought a second one would be nice to take to Mexico. I ended up with a beautiful purple one piece. Good thing purple is my favorite color :D Hopefully Iapos;ll get to try it out before we leave.
